Frequently asked questions

Where do I download OverlayGG?

OverlayGG is sold and distributed exclusively on Steam. Open the Steam store page, purchase the lifetime license, and Steam will install and update the app for you automatically.

Will OverlayGG work with anti-cheat games?

OverlayGG is a transparent overlay that runs as a separate process on your computer. Some anti-cheat systems — particularly kernel-level ones like Riot's Vanguard (Valorant, League of Legends) — may detect, block, or warn against overlay applications. For these games, OverlayGG includes Safe Mode (toggle in Settings), which runs the app as a normal resizable window with no transparency, no always-on-top, and no global mouse hook — perfect for a second monitor or beside the game window.

Use OverlayGG with anti-cheat-protected games at your own risk. We do not guarantee that any specific game's anti-cheat will permit the overlay, and we are not responsible for any account action a publisher or anti-cheat provider takes. See section 4 of our EULA for full details.

What is Safe Mode?

Safe Mode is a built-in OverlayGG setting that runs the app as a regular Windows window with a title bar — no transparency, no always-on-top, no click-through, no global mouse hooks. It's the recommended setup for:

Toggle it in Settings → Safe Mode. The app will prompt you to restart. (Previously called "Window Mode.")

I'm having trouble signing in. What should I do?

The fastest path is to use Sign in with Steam from the app's sign-in screen — it requires no password. If you originally created an account with email/password and can't get back in, email support@overlaygg.com with the email address on your account and we'll get you sorted.

The overlay isn't showing up over my game.

Check the following:

Why doesn't OverlayGG show up on Minecraft Java?

Minecraft Java Edition uses true exclusive fullscreen, which bypasses the Windows Desktop Window Manager and blocks every overlay — not just ours. Discord overlay, OBS browser source, and Steam overlay all have the same problem with vanilla Minecraft. This is a hard OS-level limitation we can't fix from inside OverlayGG.

Any of these free, well-known fixes will let OverlayGG (and every other overlay) draw on top of Minecraft:

If you play Minecraft Bedrock, it uses DirectX 12 with borderless fullscreen by default, so the overlay should already work.

These are third-party tools. We are not affiliated with their authors and do not warrant or support them — they're listed here because they're the standard fixes in the Minecraft community.

What if my game runs in true fullscreen with no borderless option?

For most games, switching to "Borderless Windowed" in the game's video settings is enough. For games that don't offer that option, a free third-party utility called Borderless Gaming (sold on Steam for a few dollars, also free on GitHub under GPL-2.0) can convert any window into a borderless one, which lets overlays draw on top.

Borderless Gaming is a third-party tool. We're not affiliated with its author, don't warrant it, and aren't responsible for its behavior — we're pointing at it because it's the most widely used solution to this problem.

Will using OverlayGG get my game account banned?

OverlayGG does not interact with any game's memory, files, or network traffic. It is a separate process that simply displays a transparent window on top of your screen. That said, kernel-level anti-cheats can — and sometimes do — flag overlay-style applications. OverlayGG shows a clear yellow warning banner before you open any guide for a known strict-anti-cheat game, and we provide Safe Mode as an alternative.

You use OverlayGG with anti-cheat-protected games at your own risk. We are not responsible for any account action taken by a game publisher or anti-cheat provider. See section 4 of our EULA.

Why is a guide outdated / wrong after a game patch?

Games change. A guide that's perfectly accurate today can become outdated when the developer releases a balance patch, a content update, or a major rework. We do our best to keep popular guides current, but we cannot guarantee that every guide reflects the very latest patch.

If you spot a wrong or outdated guide, click the flag icon inside the guide to report it — that's the fastest way to get our attention. Guide content is informational only and is not a substitute for your own judgment. See section 9 of our EULA.

Does the overlay affect game performance / FPS?

OverlayGG draws a small transparent window composited by Windows DWM. The GPU cost is minimal on any system that can run the game itself. If you notice an FPS drop, try lowering the overlay's opacity, reducing its window size, or switching to Safe Mode (which costs nothing while you're playing because it's not on top of the game).

How do I get a refund?

Refunds for OverlayGG purchases on Steam are handled exclusively by Steam under the Steam Refund Policy. We do not separately process refunds for Steam purchases.

Is there a free trial?

Not at this time. We may add a Steam-supported time-limited trial in the future. In the meantime, the Steam refund policy gives you up to two weeks (and under two hours of use) to try the app and request a full refund if it's not for you.

Do you support Mac or Linux?

OverlayGG is Windows-only at launch. Mac and Linux support are not currently planned for V1.

How do I delete my account and data?

Email support@overlaygg.com with the subject line "Account deletion request" from the email address on your account (or include your Steam ID if you signed in with Steam). We delete your account and associated data within 30 days. See section 7 of our Privacy Policy.
